On this week’s episode of Woman Inc., I sat down with powerhouse entrepreneur Evelyn Rusli, the President and Co-Founder of Yumi, a venture-backed nutrition and wellness company tailored to babies and toddlers.
In 2017 Rusli and her co-founder Angela Sutherland launched Yumi-a direct-to-consumer organic, plant-based food service. Today, Yumi is the leading childhood nutrition company focused on intelligently designed, science-backed meals, snacks and vitamins for every stage of development.
In December, Yumi announced a $67 million Series B led by Jazz Ventures Partners, AF Ventures and 23andme co-founder and CEO Anne Wojcicki. Yumi’s previous investors include the founders of Warby Parker, Harry’s, Sweetgreen and Uber, and celebrities Gabrielle Union and Snoop Dogg. This new raise brings the company’s total funding to $79 million, an incredible feat, especially when less than 2 percent of U.S. venture funding goes to women-founded companies.
In this episode, we chat about how Rusli’s decade of experience as a journalist-previously on staff at the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times covering startups and innovation-prepared her to think innovatively and ask intentional questions as an entrepreneur.
I was honored to sit with Evelyn and soak in not only her insightful wisdom, but also her evident passion when speaking about her mission behind bringing beautiful, organic foods to the doorstep of thousands of families.
